Leading the field in Vascular Neurosurgery

Mr. Alexios Adamides is a specialist Cerebrovascular Neurosurgeon. He is the director of cerebrovascular surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He has particular expertise in the management of brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural arteriovenous fistulas, and cavernous malformations.

He established the first designated MoyaMoya clinic in Victoria, at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2023, and he is highly experienced and technically proficient in re-vascularisation surgery for MoyaMoya disease both direct (STA-MCA bypass) and indirect.

Mr. Adamides utilises bypass techniques including high flow, inter-positional and in-situ to offer treatment for complex/giant aneurysms. He has expertise in the treatment of highly vascular tumours such as haemangioblastomas and meningiomas and is experienced in microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia.

He practices with knowledge, experience, precision, innovation and care. After graduating from medical school in the United Kingdom in 2000, Mr. Adamides undertook comprehensive neurosurgical training in Australia. In 2012, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and has since been a consultant neurosurgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

He completed sub-specialist training in Cerebrovascular surgery and regularly attends advanced courses and scientific meetings. An award-winning researcher, he has contributed to scientific literature that informs and improves neurosurgical practice globally. His approach prioritises minimally invasive methods and techniques that reduce risk and enhance recovery.
